The brief
Verde publishes in-depth climate reporting. Their readers told them the old app felt like social media, and they wanted something that felt closer to a printed journal.
The approach
We removed infinite scroll, notifications and like counts. The reading view uses one column, one serif and a soft paper tone that follows the reader’s system theme.
The outcome
Average reading time rose from four to eleven minutes per session in the first month after launch, and app-store reviews mention the quiet more than any feature.
